Decorate with stickers and have children point to the day of the week and name it, name the month and circle each days' number.  Example: "Today is Monday, September __(circle the number)".  Older children can also name the year.

Story Paper:  Drawing and Handwriting
For the months, seasons and special holidays of the year: have children make a favorite holiday or seasonal drawing during each month.  Children can make a special drawing depicting their birthday month.  Children can practice writing the month word in the writing lines, or help children write a description of the drawing.  Place the artwork next to the current monthly calendar in a visible place (refrigerator door).

*Frame:  a simple frame that emphasizes the artwork, explain the purpose of a frame.
*Two primary handwriting lines with 
"stop lines" for lower extending consonants:  g, j, p, q, y

Birthday Flowers for the Month
Birth flowers coloring pages featuring month name to trace and practice handwriting.  Children can color and place next to their month calendar or decorate as gift to relatives and friends on special occasions.
