suggestions to present letter B. Review related topics
in the themes column and visit the baker
themed activities and crafts.
Activity #1 Introduction to The Community Helper: The Baker and Letter Bb
Tell the children they are going to have fun learning about a very special community helper, the baker.
1. Print your choice of alphabet materials in the materials
column. Ask the children if they have met a
baker. Do they know what he or she does? Discuss the
main responsibilities of a baker. Discuss the image, what is
the baker doing and what are the objects in the image. What is
he wearing? He wears a uniform and a special hat. What
color is the uniform? Who
else do they know bakes -- Mom, Dad, Grandma, Auntie, etc.

Alphabet Activity:
Letter B is for Baker
Present and display your option of Letter B alphabet printable
materials listed in the materials column. Present and display the poster and distribute the coloring page or handwriting
practice worksheet.
* Finger and Pencil Tracing:
Trace letter B's in upper and lower case with your finger as you also sound out the
letter. Invite the children to do the same on their coloring
page.
Encourage the children to trace the dotted letter
with your choice of sharpened crayon, fine tip marker, coloring or regular pencil
and demonstrate the direction of the arrows and numbers that help them trace the
letter correctly. During the demonstration, you may want to
count out loud as you trace so children become aware of how the number
order aids them in the writing process.
*Find the letter B's: Have the children find all the
letter B's in upper and lower case on the page and encourage them to circle
or trace/shade them first. Visit each child to make sure they
have identified the letter B's and then discuss the locations with the poster.
Coloring Activity: Encourage
the children to color the image in the coloring page and worksheets.
Letter B words:
Letter B Worksheet and Mini Book
This worksheet and matching mini-book can be used as part of Letter B program of activities
to reinforce letter practice and to identify related b words.
Read suggested instructions for using the worksheet
and mini-book.
Discuss other letter B words and images: First 'brainstorm' and
ask the children about other words that have that beginning sound and
write them on a board (dry erase board) as the children come up with
example. You can print letter b in a different bright color to
make it stand out. If you have illustrated alphabet books you
can also use images in them. You can also display other B posters and
coloring pages or even make a letter B classroom book using coloring
images or color posters. Visit Letter
B Printable Materials to make your choice.
Letter B Word Search
& Handwriting Practice
The word search game features the baker and other letter B words
with pictures and handwriting
practice.
Advanced Handwriting Practice:
1. Print your choice of printable
lined-paper. Have children draw a baker or select and print
a baker coloring page 1
* 2 * 3
to color and decorate after writing practice.
2. Drawing and writing paper: encourage children to draw
and color a baker and practice writing letter B b.
Make sure to include this activity as part of a theme, story time
activity, and choose one or more arts
and crafts activities which are available in
the baker theme.
