Have some items for demonstration that feature a zipper, such as clothing, backpack, etc. Practice opening and closing the zippers.
A zipper is a fastener made up of two rows of teeth that lock together and a slide pull that either joins them or pulls them apart. Zippers are used on clothing, handbags and other articles.
Alphabet Activity: Alphabet Letter Z is for Zipper
Present the letter Z zipper six-piece online jigsaw puzzle to practice problem solving and view letter Z in upper and lower case. Adjust number or pieces using the Change Cut button on the left.
Present and display your option of letter Z alphabet printable materials listed in the materials column.
Alphabet - beginning letter Z sound (Ages 3+)
1. Present the handwriting worksheet and/or the letter Z activity worksheet and mini-book program. Read suggested instructions for using the worksheet and mini-book.
* Finger Tracing:
Trace letter Z's in upper and lower case with your finger as you also sound out the letter. Invite the children to do the same on their coloring page.
*Find the letter Z's: Have the children find all the letter Z's in upper and lower case on the worksheet words and encourage them to circle these first. Visit each child to make sure they have identified the letter Z's and then discuss the locations with the worksheet.
Discuss other letter Z words and images: First 'brainstorm' and ask the children about other words that have that beginning sound and write them on a board (dry erase board) as the children come up with example. You can print letter Z in a different bright color to make it stand out. If you have illustrated alphabet books you can also use images in them. You can also display other Z posters and coloring pages or even make a letter Z classroom book using coloring images or color posters. Visit Letter Z Printable Materials to make your choice.
Coloring and Sticker Activity: Encourage the children to decorate the large letter Z images incorporating the stickers on the bottom of the page. Older children can use the stickers to complete the mini-book.
