*Walruses are mammals that live in shallow waters in and around the Arctic - VERY COLD! (show this area in map/atlas or globe).
*They bask in large herds on pack ice there.
* Walruses are tan to light brown.
*Walruses use their tusks and whiskers to search the seafloor for shellfish. They suck clams out of the shells without even breaking them open!
*They have layers of fat, called
blubber, under their skin to help keep warm in freezing weather.
*Males make strange, bell-like sounds under the water to attract
mates.
