Children will have the opportunity to explore the contributions of the forester an important community
helper. This is a wonderful career that embraces taking
care of our planet Earth and use its natural resources wisely.
A forester is a person who works in and looks after a forest.
Activity #1: Explore the three main areas that a forester
works on related to the forest at Camfor.com Tree School (Canada)
In this online activity children will be able to see the three main
areas in which a forester works: Click on this link,
and then scroll down to Explore the Working Forest
mini-screen - Explore each of the three scenes: Recreation,
Harvest, and Reforestation. In each area you can
click on different objects and see animation and new information. Children will get a
feel for the important work of a forester and how he helps to
protect and use the resources of the forest wisely. Hit the
back button on the left upper right side of the picture to visit the
next area.
Summary:
Recreation: The forester is like a detective and he
finds clues in the forest that help match the right activities for
recreational spots such as campsites, picnic areas, hiking trails,
and at the same time ensure the forest remains healthy.
Harvest: The forester very carefully plans how much
wood from trees is needed for the products that we need and want, but at the same
time making sure that the forest remains healthy and productive.
Reforestation: The forester has the responsibility of
reforesting which means to decide what trees to plant and to prepare
the area for planting
