Activity > Nursery Rhyme and Music
Note: Children under 2 will benefit greatly from singing,
using puppets, stuffed animals, and/or finger plays with nursery
rhymes.
* Print, read and/or sing the rhyme color version poster of
the rhyme to child, repeat and encourage child to repeat or
sing by reading by sections.
* Music: Background music always helps to remember the tune
and to encourage children to sing along. Here
is a link with text and music.
* Run your fingers under the text as you read or sing the
rhyme.
* You may want to use the color version or black & white version
to place on a felt board or any place comfortable the child can
view.
* Start a dialogue about what happened to Miss Muffet:
1. What scared her?
2. Discuss words the
children may be unfamiliar with and you may also show children sour
cream to demonstrate:
Helpful definitions:
tuffet - a low seat
or stool
curds - solid part of sour milk:
the solid substance formed when milk coagulates, used to make cheese
whey -watery
part of curdled milk: the watery liquid that
separates from the solid part of milk when it turns sour or when
enzymes are added in cheese making.
3.
Count how many legs the spider has.

Spider
Mini Windsock Craft:
This is a very easy craft to practice numbers 1 to 8, scissor
cutting practice.
Spider
Wreath Craft (Large Version) Ages 4 and older.
This is a great group activity for a child care facility or family
child care,
or at home with a group. Below is a smaller easier version you may also want to
consider.
Easy Small Spider Wreath Version: (3+ age with assistance)
To make it a bit easier, the larger version in the link, can be adapted to a smaller version
with a few variations.
1. Use two small paper plates. Bend in half and cut out center leaving a 2 to
2 1/2 rim, glue them together
to make a sturdier frame.
2. Paint the plate black - this can be done quickly with a
sponge and dry with a hair dryer.
3. Follow the same instructions as in the link for completing the
large version wreath craft, except glue rolled construction paper in the back of plate
donut form.
Children 2.5 and older:
* You may want to include an activity to make the easy fun
spider cookies on the link provided. You can also make the
dough ahead of time and decorate on the day of the activity.
