Activities Materials
This is Activity Day #1 of Letter A Impact Poster Lesson Plan

Make sure to have a selection of different kinds of apples to show and present to the children:
Activity 1 > Health and Nutrition > Apple
  • An apple is a firm, round fruit with juicy white flesh and red, green, or yellow skin.  It is also the name of the tree on which this fruit grows.
  • Apples a Fruit with "A-Peel" is for 4th and 5th graders but adaptable to many ages.  Discuss that an apple is a fruit.
  • One small apple counts as one cup of fruit.

This lesson plan includes various printable activities to recognize and write letter A.

Activity 3 > Crafts > Apple Theme and Apple Tree theme
Review and select an apple theme crafty activity below that is age appropriate:

  • Apple prints placemat: Cut an apple in half and dip in red, green, yellow paint to make apple prints on light colored construction paper.  When paint is dry, add leaves, smile, eyes and letter A noses.  Optional > laminate.
  • Apple Fingerprints or Stickers Tree >
    Skills > Numbers > Counting
    Discuss that various fruit, such as apples, cherries and oranges grow on trees.  Trees grow from the seeds in the fruit.
  • Johnny Appleseed Theme > View this animated Disney classic video depiction of the American legend, Johnny Appleseed. [Part 1]

    Print this tree coloring page, Johnny Appleseed is taking a nap under the tree.

    Have children color the image first.  Children can decorate the tree with "apples":  painted fingerprints (poster paint or washable ink pad), red round stickers or red paper cut-outs using a coin as a template.  Have children add five or ten apples.  Have them count them to practice numerals and number order.

Activity 4 > Physical Activity > Active Apple coloring page:  When presenting this coloring page address that eating nutritious foods and exercise are both important for good health.

Snacks: apple sauce, cut-up apples
