World Environment Day is celebrated June 5 and it was instituted by the United Nations to stimulate worldwide awareness of the environment. A day to promote caring for our planet, Earth.

What is the United Nations?
It is an important international organization that promotes world peace, security, cooperation, and understanding.

World Environment Day is celebrated around the world with street rallies, bicycles parades, green concerts, essay and poster competitions in schools, tree planting, recycling efforts, clean-up campaigns and much more.  Visit here to learn about this year's events and theme:  2010 > Many Species. One Planet. One Future.

What can we learn and why is it important to participate and celebrate this day?

We want the world to be safe, clean and beautiful for you as you grow up, and we want your children and their children to have a beautiful world to live in.  For that to happen we have to work together to take care of our planet Earth.  So today we can celebrate and learn ways we can care for the world we live in.

Here are themed activities that are really fun and you will see how you can help a little bit every day to keep our world beautiful, clean and safe!
