The activities are adaptable for
children 2 to 6 years old, toddlers, preschool and kindergarten.
This rhyme is ideal to introduce The
baker, a community helper. Visit the baker theme to
incorporate other activities and crafts.
Reading and singing the nursery rhyme - Pat-a-cake:
- Print or read from the screen the nursery
rhyme poster - Pat-a-cake or view in YouTube.
- Visit this link for music
and lyrics to create excitement and motivation.
- Discuss the image with the
children. Ask them what do they see happening. Can they
recognize the baker?
- Make sure to do a finger/hand play
demonstration of the nursery rhyme first. Mimic placing the
cake inside an oven and patting the hand, tracing letter B in the
palm of the hand or the child's first name initial and say the
child's name in the rhyme text.
- Repeat the rhyme slowly and the children can repeat by verse.
This nursery rhyme is particularly effective for children to learn
the first letter of their name.
