Explore America's State Birds!
- Songbirds for USA! Many states have designated a songbird for state bird, and many have designated the same bird. The northern cardinal is designated in seven states: Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia. The western meadowlark is designated in six states: Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, and Wyoming. The northern mockingbird is designated in five states: Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas.
- Other designated birds: Some states, in addition to a state bird, have designated a game bird, waterfowl (duck) or raptor (bird of prey). The wild turkey is the state game bird in Alabama, Mssachusets, Oklahoma and South Carolina. The bobwhite quail is the designated state game bird in Georgia, Missouri and Tennesse. Two states have designated a state raptor: Idaho designated the peregrine falcon, and Oregon designated the osprey. South Carolina designate the wood duck or Carolina duck as the state duck.
- With its piercing gaze and impressive wingspan, the bald eagle isn't just a pretty face—it's America's national bird, and a living legend!
