A snail is small animal with a soft body and a spiral shell. Many kinds of snails live on land, in fresh water, or in the ocean. They move slowly using their wide, strong foot. Snails are mollusks.
- Many species of snails are endangered.
- Snails are creatures that use their shells as a home.
- They also use their shells as protection from other creatures.
- Snail may live on land, fresh water (the pond) or the ocean.
- Some of these shells wash up on the sea shore and are collected by people.
- The sea shells come in many different sizes and colors.
- The sea snail eats small plants in the sea (algae) and decaying matter.
- Ask the children if they have seen a snail before? Did they touch it? How did it feel? Was it slimy?
- Can we eat snails? Yes, we can eat certain types of cultivated land snails: escargot is one type that is popular in French cuisine.
