TORTOISE TALES: SLOW AND STEADY FUN!
  • Heavy Shell Homes: Tortoises have very strong and heavy shells that are like their own personal fortresses! These shells protect them from other animals.
  • Land Travelers: Unlike their fresh water turtles and sea turtle cousins, tortoises spend all their time on land. They have sturdy, elephant-like feet that help them walk slowly but surely across the ground.
  • Plant Munchers: Tortoises are mostly herbivores, which means they love to munch on plants, leaves, fruits, and flowers.
  • Super Old: Some types of tortoises can live to be very, very old – yes, most older than the oldest humans! They take their sweet time with everything, including growing old.
  • In Trouble: Sadly, some kinds of tortoises are endangered. This means that there aren't many of them left in the world, and we need to be extra careful to protect them and their homes so they don't disappear forever. Things like losing their habitats and being taken as pets can put them in danger.
