Towering Tales: Fun Facts About Giraffes! :
  • Super Tall! Giraffes are the tallest animals in the whole world! They can grow taller than a one-story house. Wow!
  • Long, Licky Tongues! Did you know a giraffe's tongue can be as long as your arm? They use their super long tongues to grab yummy leaves from tall trees.
  • Spotty and Special! Just like your fingerprints are special to you, each giraffe has its own unique pattern of spots. No two giraffes have the exact same spots!
  • Not Much Sleep! Giraffes don't need a lot of sleep. Sometimes they only snooze for a little bit each day. They can even sleep standing up!
  • Long Necks, Same Bones! Even though their necks are super long, giraffes only have seven bones in their necks, just like you! Their neck bones are just much, much bigger.
  • Conservation status: As a species they are not considered endangered. Out of eight assessed subspecies, two—the reticulated giraffe and the Masai giraffe—are classified as endangered. Another two, the Kordofan giraffe and the Nubian giraffe, are critically endangered.
